Machines That Think is a four-piece outfit from Chicago, IL. Pranay (vocals / bass) founded the band in 2003 in Champaign, IL along with Nick (drums). Until 2006, the other members of the band rotated save for Josh (lead guitar) who had joined the band in 2004. The three remained the core members of the band and moved to Chicago in 2006. By 2007, Francis (rhythm guitar) joined the band, overtaking rhythm guitar duties from Pranay, who turned his focus to bass.
Machines That Think enjoys and plays a wide variety of rock music, but lately have been concentrating their sound. There are several factors that define their music: powerful drums, odd meters, driving rhythms, spacey lead-work, soaring vocals, and lyrical themes highly cognizant of primarily the world around the members and oftentimes within them. All four members contribute to the writing process, and the whole recording process from tracking to mastering is meticulously handled by the band -- Pranay has done most of the work on past recordings including the 2006 release "Red In Tooth And Claw" (Produced/Engineered by Pranay; co-produced by Josh)
Looking to the future, Pranay's expertise will be the main force in front of the console, but the rest of the band will play a more integral role in the entire process. Expect these ideas to shine through on the next Machines That Think release, The Way the World Works Vol.1-5, which will be released throughout the upcoming summer/fall. With the release encompassing 25 tracks total, we thought it would be better for you to listen to it all in 5 song volumes. Safer. Funner. More Fun. Each individual volume will also have its own artwork. We are also speculating the best methods for you to digitally purchase individual songs, individual volumes, and the album in its entirety.
